The Sr. Director of Sales Engineering will manage regional Sales Engineering teams that work closely with the regional and local Sales Managers and Sales/Account Executives. The Sales Engineering team is responsible for the overall technical aspects of pre-sale activity, including technical presentations, customer requirement gathering, pre-sale designs, capital requirements, and identifying strategic and field trial opportunities. The Sr. Director of Sales Engineering will be responsible for recruiting, training and managing all Pre-Sales technical support for Spectrum. This position requires an accomplished technical professional with experience and knowledge of service provider solutions and the demands of enterprise markets for services and connectivity. The Sr. Director of Sales Engineering will interface with counterparts in Product Development, Corporate/Regional Engineering, Sales, Operations and Training to ensure that Spectrum Enterprise processes and products support the achievement of sales objectives. Major Duties & Responsibilities * Direct the Sales Engineering activities with accountability for company-wide strategies and goals. * Achieve results through subordinate managers responsible for successful operations of their assigned regions/geography, partnering with sales teams on providing product/solution needs that meet the customers' requirements * Coordinate Pre-Sales Engineering resources to support account activity to ensure revenue and strategic goals are achieved * Assess, build and develop individual and team capability, ready to scale if needed * Coordinate with Training to direct, develop and deliver technical and product training * Responsible and accountable for business unit budget and staffing strategies * Direct a team of Sales Engineering Managers in the successful implementation, planning, solution preparation, and measurement of initiatives that are complex and strategic in nature * Ensure Sales Engineering designs solutions adhering to company published standards while driving to low cost, high quality solutions * Coordinate and champion research and product roadmaps to develop and drive new additional revenue streams * Acts as liaison with outside vendors & telecommunication organizations, investigating & analyzing new technology and strategies for commercial services * Foster teamwork and mentorship among the Sales Engineering team to encourage solution sharing and knowledge transfer * Interface with Product Development and Marketing do drive collateral and product features required for achievement of sales revenue goals * Attend cross-department management meetings at various levels to act as an advocate and liaison for the Sales and Sales Engineering team * Assist various product groups in communicating to the field in a consistent and effective manner with regard to product road maps, Engineering releases and the effects on the commercial customer, and managing technical escalations * Work closely with medium to large customers to understand their needs and advocate on their behalf within product groups and engineering teams. * Track weekly, monthly and quarterly Sales Engineering opportunity assignments and revenue potential * Close coordination is required with Sales to ensure that the Sales teams get the proper technical training and support from the Sales Engineering team * Identify market trends and translates the impact of those trends for Spectrum Enterprise and its customers * Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, with 10 to 12 years of MSO/telecommunications experience in Technology, Network Design and Engineering, and Project Management, or equivalent combination of education and experience * Deep knowledge of networking technologies required as the basis for making assessments of the future requirements of Spectrum products and/or the impacts that engineering decisions will have on our customers * Excellent customer facing skills, in partnership with sales leads and subordinates * Excellent ability to influence internal and external stakeholders and build consensus * Comfortable setting realistic expectations and managing a highly demanding and performance driven team * Strong verbal and written communication skills * Strong conflict resolution and problem solving skills * Must be a strong advocate of sales while building relationships across business groups * Technically capable to define specific product requirements and understand how they will affect customers * Ability to attract, develop, engage and retain highly motivated and skilled team at various levels of the organization * In depth understanding of customers business and application of Spectrum Enterprise Business solutions in various environments and across various vertical markets * Advanced technical understanding of service providers/MSO network architectures and technologies * Must be able to multitask in a role with little supervision and many demands from various business units * Ability to translate complicated technical needs to non-technical audiences * Financial and business analytical skills * Industry recognized network certifications such as MEF, CCNP, CCIP or CCIE levels preferred, but not required * Valid Driver's License, with satisfactory driving record and auto insurance coverage
